YES
As a member of the AmeriCorps Service Network, YES receives grant funding to support ten AmeriCorps Green School Coordinators for a 12-month, immersive service experience. Through their service, AmeriCorps members gain real-world leadership and facilitation training, networking opportunities and professional development -- in addition to receiving a modest living stipend, health coverage, and an education award at the conclusion of their service term.
While the tangible benefits of being an AmeriCorps member can be distilled into the above points, our Green School Coordinators will tell you that serving specifically with YES brings about invaluable intangible benefits. Serving in Detroit Public Schools and as crucial members of EcoWorks as a whole, YES Coordinators become fully engaged in Detroit’s education and nonprofit communities. The vibrant team dynamic of YES also deepens our member’s sense of community, and galvanizes the desire to serve it.
